Types of Photography – What is your specialty?
A few decades ago a doctor was a doctor. In today’s world, there is a medical specialist for every member (and sub-member) of your body.
Photography has branched out in much the same way. What is your specialty?
Photography is one of the most gratifying hobbies around. There is literally a world of things to photograph – animals, nature, buildings, people, events, landscapes – the list is endless.
There are also smaller entities of photography such as photographing images through a microscope or telescope.
With so many choices, it becomes easy to sector specific topics, allowing photographers to procure an identity with their subjects, and to establish a certain autonomy in that field (i.e. Photo Specialists).
You may consider yourself a basic photographer – which may sound simple, but it actually implies that you’re very versatile! You may find yourself focusing on two or three areas of photography, such as photographing pets or wedding photography. If you are good with your camera, you can make this hobby into a viable business.
One occurrence that makes a photographer inflate with confidence is when their work takes on a character of its own – the look, the feel (and no, it isn’t cotton).
Work to develop your specialty, so that with time people can look at a photo and know that it’s yours – without your signature.
A few fields of photography are:
- Nature
- Microscopy
- Infared
- Wedding
- Kid
- Pet
- Nude
- Macro
- Telescope
- Black & White
- Portraiture
- Landscape
- Silhouette
- Industrial
- Modeling
Remember, whatever you photograph, make it fun!
