Saving Money, Trends
& Teens
Teens like to fit in. If the
rest of the girls are wearing a certain type of shoe, your teen
daughter will want to own it, too. Same with boys, who have
tended to grow very name brand conscious over the last couple of
decades.
The trouble with teen trends is two-fold.
1.They're costly because they can involve adult-driven desires,
such as automobiles and designer clothing. 2. Teen trends are
emotionally driven and when a teen doesn't obtain the trendy item
they want, they may feel as if they don't fit in.
To help save money on teen trends,
try some of the following suggestions:
If you want to get the trendy item for your teen and are having
a tough time with your pocketbook AND you can't find that trendy
item on the clearance rack, check out the local thrift stores. Many
thrift shops contain new clothing donated by the Big Boys.
Get with your teen and think of ways to make some extra money that
can be applied to that trendy purchase. Yard work, paper routes,
shining shoes, even doing tasks for the elderly such as changing
out light bulbs are all very good places to start.
In the end, if you are unable to make that trendy purchase, it's
not going to be the end of the world. Sometimes in life, I feel
that we go through certain things so that we can help others later
in life who are faced with the same problems. There is an
inner strength to be gained in not always getting what we want,
and a deep knowledge to be gained in not always getting the things
in life that we need. Need, Want = Life Lessons.
