August Moon A Free Online Love Story The blazing sun cast a shadow from the clear blue sky as Savannah enjoyed the umbrella of protection provided by the grandfather oak. Her new special place. Everyone needed a special pondering place, she decided as her eyes focused on a sky blended with colors that mirrored the blue depths of her eyes. And the intensity of the heat had created two almost perfectly round circles on her cheeks, giving her that 'cheerful dolly' appearance. Lifting the damp golden tresses from her neck, the collie pawed at her, seeking her undivided attention. "Pardner, it's too hot for petting," she assured, the male collie twisting his head as she rejected his request. "You're such a love goblin," she went on to fondly criticize. A bit of whining did the trick, Savannah leaning over to pet him fondly. He had seemed to readily accept her when she had arrived to take up residence at her grandfather's small estate. It felt right to be here, even amid the scorching August heat. And her grandfather had always sworn that the property lay smack-dab in the middle of God's country. As her eyes continued to dart over the area, she had to admit that the scenery was intoxicating. Pardner grew even more anxious, rushing past her jean-clad legs which lay stretched out on the ground, then tugging at one boot as if trying to bring her to her feet. "You're a persistent old thing!" she giggled, jerking her foot up, knowing the damage that a dog could do to a boot - even a dog with old brittle teeth. Savannah drew her brows together, the dog charging towards her, this time wrapping his mouth around her arm and tugging rather gingerly. Again, she managed to brush him off, mildly scolding, "Bad doggie. I'll have to teach you some manners, Pardner-" He cut her off as he raced around the grandfather oak, barking and acting frenzied. And then she heard it - first the rustling, then the rattle, then Pardner's yelp as he fell backwards on the ground, Savannah scrambling to her feet.
