Love is Like That A Free Online Love Story Luke studied his best friend through the distance, Hank's rented tux fitting a mite too tight, the red cummerbund squeezing into his extended midsection - one created by too many long-necks and too many nights-out with the boys. Hard to believe that Hank was a married man, Luke silently reflected, the smell of Italian wedding cake and fruit punch sifting through the air. Didn't look too happy about the affair either, the tortured look fixed on his smooth-as-a-baby's-behind face, speaking volumes. Poor bastard. Luke's gaze shifted to the bride; Karen. No wonder Hank had a death-look etched on his face. As his dark eyes sifted over the bride, he took note of the white dress - an unrighteous selection for there was nothing virgin about this girl. Twice, she'd made a move on him, and if not for Hank, he might have nipped at the bait. Then again, probably not. It was hard getting past that face of Karen's, one that appeared as if it had been run over with a steam iron. Chest, too - as flat as a flapjack. For Hank's sake, Luke hoped that her hidden lily had been spared the curse. Karen had a mouth on her, too - always open and always squawking. In her opinion, Hank couldn't do anything right. Engagement ring - not big enough. Wedding ceremony - not big enough. Bridal bouquet - not big enough. And if she hadn't yet experienced an intimate moment with Hank, Luke was certain that she would find more things that weren't just big enough tonight. The more Luke pondered on the matter, the more confused he became. Love was a strange thing, or he supposed it was love. But if what Hank and Karen had was love, then he could do well without it. Odds were, he'd do just that. At 35, most of his friends had bitten the bullet, like Hank. What Luke sought in a woman was a mite too much to hope for - at least in this day and age. Looks mattered to a certain degree, but marriage was more about compatibility. He'd rather find himself scooching-up to a sway-back mare than to a beautiful Delilah. He desired a kind heart, a friend, someone who wouldn't bite his head off - through thick and thin. Lovely. Now Hank was toying with Karen's leg, pulling off her garter. The thought of the two of them doing the wild thing was the last thing that he wanted to ponder. And as Hank rose, Luke realized that there was a group of men collected around him. As he gazed up he barely caught sight of the garter before it landed on top of his Stetson hat. "Talk about a dead ringer!" Kirk laughed, slapping Luke on the back. "Looks like you'll be taking the big step after all, partner. And I thought you were destined to be a bachelor for life."
