Such a shame; empty and wasted - much like Millie herself. He’d been hoping that she would take interest in the new doctor’s attentions. Doctor Ben had arrived in Feather Creek about six months ago and had been running circles around Millie, desperately seeking to court the woman - unfortunately, a waste of time and effort. As Doctor Ben was his nearest neighbor and visited the ranch often, he had gotten to know him quite well over the last few months. Like Hawk, he enjoyed fishing as well as simply staring out into the calm waters, particularly on a warm summer day. The two of them had often shared this silent rapport. Summer….such a long time away, Hawk tacked onto his tumbling thoughts as Millie settled onto the stool and grabbed her paperwork. Such a small thing.
