Murder Mystery-Romance by Sky Taylor Murder at Wolfmoon Ranch - Love Story Begins at this Link
The only thing keeping Austin from exploding atthis point was the fact that the job was temporary - just until HQ could locate
a qualified full-time sheriff for the town of Shadowland. It wasn’t that he missed Reno, rather the fact
that the assignment had foregone his wedding plans. Heather had scampered to
cancel reservations and had not been in the best of moods lately. Then again,
she was rarely in the best of moods - and Austin blamed her demeanor on her
father which unfortunately was also his boss. Heather was an only child and
Captain Williams had spoilt her rotten. Even so, Austin had given up on the so-called
fairytale romance theory, as it didn’t exist - at least not in his world. At
thirty-two he wasn’t getting any younger. He wanted a few kids to enjoy before
he was too old to toss footballs - or too arthritic to sit in a tiny chair at
his daughter’s tea party. Heather had more or less entered his personal
life slowly over the years. They were good friends, not lovers. In fact, Austin
wouldn’t think of taking advantage of the lady as Captain William’s wrath would
fall without question. While Heather’s mood swings were tolerable,
Austin continually wished that she wasn’t filled with self-edifying chatter.
Talk, talk, talk - it never stopped. And she rarely discussed anything that sparked
his interest. The conversation was always one-sided, and always about her.
Shopping, fashion, mani-pedis and hairdos were not his cup of tea. He would
take a good book, a cup of steaming hot coffee and warm fire any day of the
week. It wasn’t even the lunch hour and she’d already
called four times. He was quickly running out of patience with the continuous
interruptions. Then again, his temporary assignment had destroyed her wedding
plans and he understood her angst. Thankfully, it was her father’s doing and
not his own. His attention drifted back onto his deputies as
Cletus eased out, “I assume you want to speak with us regarding the Daddy Jack
murder case?” Daddy Jack, the nickname for Jack Bryant who had
went missing on Christmas Day, the locally famous owner of the Daddy Jack
Ranch. Austin lifted his brow and asked, “So you think
this is a murder case rather than a missing person case?”
