There is another statement that often gets overlooked, yet it provides powerful insight to your relationship. 'I like you, darling!' In the old movie masterpiece, Shenandoah, actor Jimmy Stewart delivered an unforgettable line. A young man was asking for his daughter's hand in marriage and he told Jimmy that he loved her. Jimmy then asked something to the effect of, "But do you like her, son?" 'Like and love'. These two words are like the words 'night and day'; both are necessary in playing a part in making our world go round – just as 'love and like' are in making our romance special. Is it possible to love someone, yet not like them? And, is it possible to like someone, yet not love them? Of course! Many couples are bound together by love, yet they may 'just really not like' one another. How to get over the 'I really don't like you' hump. Recognize and accept that everyone has fallacies. Many times, what begins as a 'perfect relationship' can quickly sour when over time, human fallacies start to surface. Some of the very things that you may have found attractive in your partner in the beginning of the relationship, may be the very things that now irritate you. Everyone goes through moods and phases in a relationship. These can be initiated by something uncontrollable in our lives, or through our own induction. When you are drowned by sadness, or overloaded with stress and trouble, try not to allow the negative emotions to effect your romantic relationship. Try not to hold grudges whenever you and your partner disagree. Having the ability to freely express your feelings and thoughts is vital to your relationship. The next time you are with your partner, try telling them something different from, 'I love you.' Try telling them, 'I like you!'
