Smoky Bears Battle the Four Winds, a Humorous Story
Two bears roasting their franks in Central Park late Saturday afternoon have given new meaning to Smoky Bears. Teddy, looking a young twenty-two, started the fiasco when he added the fatty franks rather than the extra lean franks to the grill - the grill igniting into an inferno.
The incident had park visitors running for cover, desperately trying to see through the thick curtain of smoke - part fatty franks, part inferno.
Smoke necessitated the removal of two winos, a clown act and a flock of baby pigeons from the park until the smoke could be cleared.
Ebook Nook's Tickle Feather spoke with Teddy's companion, Betty Bear who told us that she was fearful of Teddy's fire, concerned that sparks from the roaring inferno might catch their fur on fire. Betty Bear was just re-stuffed last year, the experience grueling and expensive, leaving her with the typical itching associated with new stuffing for about two weeks after her ordeal.
Betty Bear explained that a couple of Good Samaritans at the park dialed for emergency help which arrived shortly thereafter. Rescue personnel found a befuddled Teddy, his burnt fork, and a group of pigeons who were openly protesting the incidence.
Tickle Feather also managed to track down Smoky Bear to get his take on the incident. Smoky Bear, known for his efforts in stomping out fires, did not have kind comments for Teddy. He recommended that Teddy not only receive a citation for his firebug fiasco, but that he should also be given to a child with a vicious dog come Christmas. Unfortunately, Santa could not be reached by Tickle Feather for comment.
We are happy to report that all ended well for Teddy, who avoided a citation. There was one little blip - as explained by Betty Bear. The crusty incident left Teddy with a bad case of the jitters every time he is near flame. He is currently seeing Frank E. Stein's, an upcoming scientist for treatment.
