How to Plan a Ghoulishly Good Halloween Party!

THE HALLOWEEN PARTY SETTING

Field Of Pumpkins - Have your bash in a field of pumpkins!  It doesn’t get any Halloweenier than this!

DECORATIONS

Balloons - If you plan to use balloons for your Halloween Party, buy them a few weeks in advance.  During the week of Halloween, you’ll be hard pressed to find them, especially in shades of black, purple, orange and yellow.

Balloons can be filled with helium so they’ll float.  You can create a small herd of ghosts by draping the floating balloons with white tissue paper and tying the paper off with ribbon.  Be sure and dot the eyes of the ghosts and add a little black mouth.  A red tongue hanging out the mouth is totally optional, as are Dumbo ears.

Tying balloons together has great potential.  Outline the entrance to your party bat cave with spooky black balloons.  Cluster them throughout the party room to add a festive flair.  Tie them onto the backs of chairs, or string them about the room to create a cobweb effect.

Cobwebs - Cobwebs are a must for Halloween parties.  It’s a hoot watching your guests getting wound up in these fuzzy fake webs that are actually, very similar to the real thing.

The best hanging spots for the webs are in the corners and in the center of the room.  If you happen to have a light or chandelier that’s hanging above your punchbowl, cover it with a cobweb, but take care so that the web doesn’t directly touch the lights.  You want your party to be hot, but not that hot.  And you know how Frankenstein feels about fire.

Animated Objects - It’s a blast visiting retail stores during the Halloween season.  They have everything from jumping skeletons to talking witches.  These life-like and life-sized objects can also move their arms, eyes, hands, tongue, ears – you name it!

There are also some nifty door greeters on the market that you might have fun checking into. They work via electronic waves, so when a guest crosses the point of placement, the object talks. Guaranteed to get a live jolt every time!  Yes, any of these items will put a little charge in your party.  Batteries not included.

Broomsticks - Broomsticks placed on walls, around door openings and on the face of the main entrance leading into the party can be the base for your Halloween party theme.  Scented broomsticks add wonderful aroma and can be purchased in craft stores and malls.

Broomsticks also work very well if you plan to present a friendly, rather than scary party.

Pumpkins - Don’t leave out one of the most popular pastimes of Halloween – pumpkin carving.  Grab a pumpkin cutter and bring out the artist in you!  Colorful hand crafted pumpkins lined in a row leading to your front door are a wonderful way to direct your guests to your Halloween Monster Bash.

Continue to incorporate these beautiful orange beasts throughout your party, even in your treats. Warm pumpkin nut bread is guaranteed to be a huge hit!  In addition, if you own pumpkin dishes then by all means, use them at your party to compliment your real pumpkins.  A pumpkin dish filled with cheese-flavored snacks can be a warm invitation to a hungry ghoul.

Bubbles - Bubbles add to almost any party.  Consider renting a bubble machine for a bubbly good time!  Or if there are children at the party, you’ve got a colossal built-in bubble machine!

Scents - If you are having your Halloween bash at your house, before the guests arrive spray the area with some pumpkin-scented spray.  Or, sprinkle some pumpkin-scented carpet deodorizer onto the carpet and vacuum.  Or, put on a pot of sliced oranges, cloves and cinnamon; for a quick scent put the dish of spices into your microwave.  Watch to ensure there’s not an overflow.

Candles - Candles capture magic!  Scatter several throughout your party area.  Take care to place them where costumes won’t accidentally meet with the candle flames.  Candles not only add magic, they add warmth, charm, flickering light and scent to your party.
